Die acceptance inspection validates the die before any production foil is stamped. The die is tested on scrap material matching the actual production stock, and the resulting stamp is compared against the artwork specification for registration, depth, and foil transfer quality. Dies failing inspection are reworked before production begins.
First article inspection runs on the first 25 to 50 cards off production before the full run commits. Physical samples run as a short production pass of 10 to 20 pieces on the actual production specification. The sample carries the real die, real foil, and real paper stock so the client approval is against the exact finished product that will come off the full production run. Sample cost is priced separately from the main production but is heavily discounted compared to running them as a standalone job, because they piggyback on our scheduled production capacity.
