Chenille is the fuzzy, dimensional lettering associated with the traditional letterman jacket. It is applied as a patch, usually felt backed with a chenille face, and it is stitched down rather than glued. It has genuine presence and it is the most authentic option. It is also most expensive and it adds weight. For the large graduation year numerals on the back, chenille is hard to beat.
Direct embroidery suits names, small school crests and sleeve detailing. It is durable, it survives washing indefinitely, and the cost scales with stitch count rather than area, so a small intricate crest can cost more than a large simple wordmark. For the individual student name on the front chest, embroidery is the standard and the right choice.
A debossed leather patch reads as expensive and modern. It suits schools with a minimal visual identity that would look wrong in full chenille. It is also a good route for a crest with fine detail that embroidery would thicken.
Heat applied vinyl and screen transfers are the cheapest route and we will supply them when a budget genuinely demand it. We are honest about the trade off. Transfers on a heavily textured wool surface do not adhere as well as on a smooth jersey, and on a garment intended to last twenty years they are the element most likely to fail. For senior jackets specifically we steer clients away from transfers for the primary decoration and reserve them for small secondary details.
The honest answer is earlier than most committees do. Here is a realistic schedule for custom senior jackets.
Design and quotation: one to two weeks, depending on how quickly committee reaches agreement, which is the genuinely unpredictable part. We have seen designs settled in a day and we have seen them run for a month.
Digital proof and revision: three to five working days. Revisions at this stage cost nothing and we would rather do four rounds now than one remake later.
Physical sample: ten to fourteen days for a fully decorated sample jacket. For orders over a hundred piece we consider this essential rather than optional. Seeing actual chenille on the actual fabric in the actual colour is not the same as approving a rendering.
Size run and collection: one week, running in parallel with the sample if the school is organised.
Bulk production: three to five weeks depending on quantity and decoration complexity. Chenille heavy designs sit at the longer end because the patches are made and applied by hand.
Delivery and distribution: a few days within the UAE.
Total, from first conversation to jackets in hands, is realistically eight to twelve weeks. Committees that start in April for a June graduation are working against clock. Committees that start in January have a relaxed time of it and get better jackets because there is room to iterate on the design.
A senior jacket is meant to survive decades and it will, with a small amount of sensible treatment.
Wool blend bodies should be dry cleaned rather than machine washed. Water and agitation felt wool further and the garment shrinks unevenly, which is not recoverable. Leather and PU sleeves should be wiped with a damp cloth and never submerged. Chenille patches tolerate dry cleaning well but should not be ironed directly, as the pile crushes and does not recover.
Storage matters more than most people think, particularly here. A jacket stored in a humid wardrobe through a Gulf summer can develop mildew on the wool and stiffness in the leather. Store it dry, on a broad hanger that support shoulders, ideally with a silica sachet in the wardrobe. That is genuinely all it takes.

Recycled polyester bodies and recycled content ribbing are available across our jacket range and on most specifications they cost same as the conventional equivalent. Where they cost more, we say so and let committee decide rather than quietly upgrading invoice.
The bigger environmental saving is simply ordering right quantity. A year group that order forty spare jackets in the hope of selling them almost always ends up with thirty in a storeroom. We would rather quote a tight number with a short reorder run available than sell a comfortable overage that become waste.
